Key responsibilities & impact

Lead and motivate a small team of journalists producing high-quality local journalism
Drive a digital-first news agenda to engage and grow online audiences
Oversee day-to-day news operations across digital and print platforms
Plan coverage, allocate stories, and respond quickly to breaking and developing news
Support reporters with story development, headlines, presentation, and digital storytelling
Maintain high editorial standards
Build relationships within served communities and reflect locally important issues
Provide wider editorial support and leadership across other titles when required

Requirements

What you’ll need

NCTJ-qualified, with a strong grounding in media law and journalistic standards
Experience working in a local newsroom
Strong understanding of compelling local journalism
Digital journalism experience and understanding of how audiences discover, consume and engage with news online
Strong news judgement and ability to identify stories with audience potential
Previous editing or newsroom leadership experience would be valuable
Confident supporting, developing and motivating other journalists
Comfortable working across digital and print
Ability to make good editorial decisions in a fast-moving news environment
