About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Support site prospecting and early-stage project development for energy projects
- Search for and evaluate potential project sites
- Begin long-lead studies and early-stage federal, state, and local environmental licensing and permitting
- Advise multidisciplinary teams on environmental site constraints and permitting strategies
- Support development of wind, solar, battery, hydrogen, hydro, and transmission projects
- Use desktop research, field reconnaissance, GIS, digital processes, and artificial intelligence for project evaluations
- Develop environmental strategies for handoff to late-stage development teams
- Perform environmental due diligence reviews
- Assist with facility compliance audits
- Support compliance, reporting, monitoring, remediation, and environmental permitting functions
- Monitor and analyze environmental policies and regulations
- Provide support to resolve environmental matters
- Interface with Federal, State, and Regional agencies
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's Degree
- 4+ years of experience
- Relevant renewable energy project experience
- Experience evaluating critical environmental constraints for energy projects
- Experience applying for and supporting permits from county, state, and federal land use agencies
- Solid track record implementing the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA)
- Knowledge of Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, and National Historic Preservation Act
- Ability to work collaboratively on multiple projects with multifaceted environmental and regulatory issues
- Willingness to travel as needed
- Ability to access remote sites using off-road vehicles and/or hiking
- Field mapping and GIS skills
- Current knowledge of national and state environmental policies and regulations
- Ability to interface effectively with internal and external customers, subject matter experts, and stakeholders
- Ability to assist in resolving complex environmental matters
- Ability to maintain working relationships with local agency staff and NGOs
