About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Define the target architecture for the Digital Product portfolio and a realistic roadmap to achieve it
- Define principles, reference architectures, design standards, and boundaries between products and teams
- Establish shared building blocks for integration and event patterns, API standards, identity, and data ownership and sharing
- Evaluate proposals, roadmaps, and partner technologies, including fit, implementation requirements, reuse, impact, and operating cost
- Regularly assess existing architecture and identify required changes
- Embed security, GDPR privacy by design, and operability into architecture
- Collaborate with the Security team and DevOps function on how solutions are built, released, and run
- Conduct design reviews for internal teams and external development partners
- Maintain architecture decisions, documentation, and diagrams
- Coach and pair with teams to grow architectural judgement
- Translate technical trade-offs into business terms for Product Owners and management
Requirements
What you’ll need- Substantial experience as a solution architect across a portfolio of products, including setting the architecture other teams build within
- Track record of evaluating proposals and existing solutions and providing clear architectural recommendations with rationale
- Hands-on depth in modern application architecture, including APIs, event-driven integration, microservices, and modular monoliths
- Production experience with cloud-native architecture on Microsoft Azure, including platform services, data stores, and integration services
- Experience designing user-facing digital products such as web, mobile, and portals
- Experience integrating digital products with enterprise systems such as ERP and CRM
- Experience working within an enterprise architecture controlled by IT-owned systems, standards, and governance
- Professional English, written and spoken
- Data architecture in a product context is valuable
- Application security and identity experience is valuable, including authentication, authorisation, and secret handling
- Experience designing for operability, resilience, and cost is valuable
- Experience working with external development partners is valuable
- Experience with connected products, telemetry, or IoT at scale is valuable
- Experience in organisations moving from project delivery to product teams is valuable
