About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Locate donors using recruitment data, alternate contacts, internet search tools, paid search engines and social media
  • Educate donors, reinforce commitment and retention messages, and overcome barriers to donation
  • Use behavioral coaching techniques, open-ended questions and reflective listening to assess donor commitment and next steps
  • Conduct donor health screenings, collect medical history and assess medical and non-medical factors
  • Engage Medical Services, Provider Services and Donor Advocacy for unusual donor circumstances
  • Coordinate blood draws, including appointments, locations, kit ordering, donor/kit tracking and follow-up forms
  • Complete first-contact activities, donor documentation and updates in STAR Link/Salesforce
  • Maintain confidentiality and identity guardianship using people finder tools appropriately
  • Maintain operational timelines, department performance standards and compliance
  • Build relationships with Donor Operations, donor center staff, collaborating departments and external vendors
  • Support Provider Services, NMDP KitMaker, external laboratory partners and draw sites
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Communications, Donor Experience, Provider Services and Donor Advocacy
  • Coordinate with Workup teams for smooth and timely donor case handoffs
  • Maintain knowledge of HLA and blood stem cell transplantation
  • Assist with the STAR Link donor database
  • Participate in shared team responsibilities and general call-queue coverage
  • Perform duties in compliance with SOPs, NMDP standards, CFR, FDA guidance, OSHA guidelines and applicable laws

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in human services or a Health Care related field is required; equivalent related Health Care experience and/or education may be substituted
  • Three plus years of professional experience communicating effectively with individuals or coaching individuals on behavior change
  • Three years of customer relations, direct patient interaction or care in a clinical/healthcare setting may substitute for behavioral coaching experience
  • Experience with basic word processing and data entry required
  • Knowledge of MS Office, including basic word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications
  • Proficiency applying computer skills while engaging with customers simultaneously
  • Advanced internet research skills, including familiarity with social media
  • Strong communication skills and ability to ask probing questions in a mission-driven call center environment
  • Ability to manage a high volume of challenging file types
  • Ability to use available people finder tools appropriately
  • Customer service, critical thinking, problem-solving and emotional intelligence skills
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced, multimedia environment involving phone, email, text and mail
  • Ability to convey medical information, manage confidential information and maintain strong documentation
  • Ability to work independently and contribute to a team environment
  • High accuracy, attention to detail and follow-through
  • Flexibility in work hours; evening/weekend hours may be required
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and advanced health screening preferred
  • Familiarity obtaining informed consent preferred
  • Experience in a target-driven sales environment preferred
  • Familiarity with digital social platforms and social media applications preferred
