About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Locate donors using recruitment data, alternate contacts, internet search tools, paid search engines, and social media
  • Contact and educate donors about donation, commitment, and retention
  • Use open-ended questions, reflective listening, behavioral coaching, and conversation summaries to overcome donation barriers
  • Conduct advanced donor health screening and assess medical and non-medical factors affecting participation
  • Engage Medical Services, Provider Services, and Donor Advocacy regarding unusual donor circumstances
  • Document and communicate resolutions and anticipated next steps
  • Coordinate blood draws, including appointment times, locations, kit ordering, donor/kit tracking, and follow-up forms
  • Complete operational activities, first-contact activities, documentation, and donor-file updates within established timelines and standards
  • Maintain donor confidentiality and identity using people finder tools appropriately
  • Update donor information and document activity in STAR Link/Salesforce
  • Maintain compliance and increase the number of donors progressing to donation
  • Maintain relationships with Donor Operations, donor center staff, collaborating departments, and external vendors
  • Support phlebotomy sites through relationships with Provider Services, NMDP KitMaker, laboratories, and draw sites
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Communications, Donor Experience, Provider Services, Donor Advocacy, and Workup teams
  • Maintain knowledge of HLA and blood stem cell transplantation
  • Assist in maintaining the STAR Link donor database
  • Provide team backup, including coverage of general call queues
  • Perform duties in compliance with NMDP standards, CFR, FDA guidance, OSHA guidelines, and applicable laws

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in human services or a Health Care related field is required; equivalent related Health Care experience and/or education may be substituted upon evaluation
  • Three plus years of professional experience communicating effectively with individuals or coaching individuals on behavior change
  • Three years of customer relations, direct patient interaction, or care in a clinical/healthcare setting may substitute for behavioral coaching experience
  • Experience with basic word processing and data entry
  • Knowledge of MS Office, including basic word processing, spreadsheet, and database software applications
  • Proficient computer skills while engaging with customers simultaneously
  • Advanced internet research skills, including familiarity with social media
  • Strong communication skills and ability to ask probing questions in a mission-driven call center environment
  • Ability to manage a high volume of challenging file types
  • Ability to use available people finder tools appropriately
  • Customer service, critical thinking, problem-solving, and emotional intelligence skills
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced, multimedia environment using phone, email, text, and mail
  • Ability to convey medical information, manage confidential information, and maintain strong documentation practices
  • Ability to work independently and contribute to a team environment
  • Accuracy, attention to detail, and follow-through
  • Flexibility in work hours; evening/weekend hours may be required
  • Preferred: additional education in public health, psychology, or health promotion
  • Preferred: familiarity with medical terminology and advanced health screening
