About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Support accurate, timely, and compliant biweekly multi-state payroll processing
- Process, audit, and reconcile payroll data
- Review timekeeping, earnings, deductions, payroll taxes, garnishments, direct deposits, and other payroll transactions
- Process and maintain employee garnishment orders, including wage garnishments, child support, tax levies, and court- or agency-ordered deductions
- Research, analyze, and resolve payroll discrepancies, employee inquiries, and system-related issues
- Prepare payroll reports, reconciliations, and data analysis for audits, compliance, Finance reporting, and leadership decision-making
- Maintain payroll records and support year-end activities, including W-2 review, payroll tax reconciliation, tax form review, and related reporting
- Collaborate with Benefits, Finance, Human Resources leadership, and other stakeholders on payroll changes
- Monitor payroll processes, recommend improvements, and support system updates, user acceptance testing, regression testing, testing documentation, and process documentation
- Support multi-state payroll activities by reviewing state-specific requirements, taxes, deductions, and compliance considerations
- Stay informed of federal, state, and local payroll laws, regulations, and best practices
- Provide responsive employee support by answering payroll questions and following up on inquiries
Requirements
What you’ll need- Payroll processing, multi-state payroll requirements, payroll tax, wage and hour requirements, deductions, garnishment processing, quarter-end and year-end payroll activities, compliance practices, and payroll reporting
- Ability to produce accurate and timely payroll work, analyze and resolve payroll discrepancies, maintain confidentiality, communicate effectively with employees and cross-functional partners, manage multiple priorities, identify process improvement opportunities, and support system testing and validation
- Required experience with Oracle Time and Labor and ADP Workforce Now
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and HCM, payroll, or timekeeping systems
- Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered
- 5+ years of payroll and tax experience required, including hands-on experience with multi-state payroll processing, payroll tax activities, tax filing, tax auditing, and payroll compliance
- Experience supporting payroll audits, quarter-end and year-end payroll activities, or process improvement initiatives
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC), which can be active or inactive
- Preferred: experience supporting payroll system testing, including user acceptance testing, regression testing, test case execution, defect tracking, and validation of payroll results
- Preferred: experience supporting payroll-related benefits administration, benefit deductions, or benefit-related payroll adjustments
- Preferred: active Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC)
