About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Shape product features and requirements with Product Line Management and recommend solutions based on feasibility, cost and risk
- Own system requirements, architecture specifications and acceptance criteria, guiding development teams through implementation and validation
- Drive system architecture with fellow architects and development leads, including interfaces and data models
- Architect and validate distributed, link-level control loops, including power control, gain and tilt equalization, and transient suppression
- Define system design rules and optical performance models, including target power profiles and OSNR estimation
- Partner with product documentation to describe features and operational concepts for customers
- Lead cross-functional feature teams to build consensus on architecture and technical concepts
- Represent feature areas in technical engagements and demonstrations with key customers
- Mentor engineers and architects
Requirements
What you’ll need- Deep understanding of fiber transmission effects, including power and OSNR evolution and fiber nonlinearities, and their impact on optical line system design
- Hands-on experience with optical networking equipment, including coherent transponders, EDFAs, Raman amplifiers and ROADM/WSS
- Knowledge of OTN, Ethernet and SDN/GMPLS control plane
- Experience designing and validating closed- and open-loop, link-level control algorithms and optical performance monitoring
- Track record of writing and leading requirements and architecture specifications for robust, reliable end-to-end systems
- Extensive experience defining fault, performance and configuration management, service provisioning and control plane requirements for multi-layer networking products, especially at L0 and L1
- Working knowledge of YANG, ONF TAPI, OpenROADM and OpenConfig data models
- Familiarity with the SONiC Optical Transport Network Working Group and OTAI
- Sound, independent judgment on ambiguous and novel technical problems
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications, Optics, Physics or a related field plus minimum 5 years of relevant work experience
- M.Sc. in the same fields plus minimum 8 years of relevant work experience
