About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Interview potential program participants and collect, verify, and input information about their history, living arrangements, and financial status
  • Determine initial and ongoing Ontario Works eligibility and entitlement under legislation, ministry directives, and local policies
  • Monitor eligibility, legislative and directive changes, documentation, and declared income
  • Approve trustees for applicants under 18 and others requiring a trustee
  • Negotiate and monitor action plans
  • Assess client needs, interests, and employment barriers; assist recipients through planning, strategizing, and referrals
  • Determine eligibility for life stabilization-related expenses
  • Determine and recover overpayments through SAMS and terminate cases
  • Present evidence in court in fraud cases if subpoenaed
  • Analyze participation, determine non-compliance, and impose sanctions as required
  • Perform other assigned duties

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Four (4) year (Honours) University Degree or Three (3) year university degree plus an additional two (2) year college diploma in a related field
  • Over two (2) years of related work experience, e.g. social services or counselling (employment and/or educational)
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license; travel is required
  • Sound interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to operate general office equipment, corporate standard software, and department-specific software (SAMS)
  • Awareness of safe work practices and basic understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
