About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide interpretation and translation services for non-English-speaking patients and families across the facility
  • Inform departmental leadership of cultural influences affecting patient care and compliance
  • Serve as a patient and family advocate and liaison between patients and the organization
  • Provide information, general assistance, complaint resolution, and referrals to appropriate resources
  • Support patients and families during hospitalization or outpatient services and address customer satisfaction issues
  • Deliver complete and accurate neutral interpretations without altering, omitting, or adding meaning
  • Interpret unit forms, consent-form communications, and support obtaining patient signatures
  • Coordinate with staff and physicians for appointments involving Spanish-speaking patients
  • Assist with quality control of translated documents from English to Spanish
  • Identify opportunities to improve customer service and patient management across diverse cultural populations
  • Address culturally based miscommunication by sharing relevant cultural information with patients and providers
  • Maintain confidentiality, patient privacy, and HIPAA compliance
  • Assist Rehabilitation Therapists as needed, including patient draping and reporting notable responses
  • Perform data entry, information retrieval, and required documentation
  • Visit new inpatients within twelve hours of admission when required and maintain daily visit logs
  • Answer questions about hospital policies and procedures and refer patients and families to appropriate departments
  • Escalate unresolved high-risk incidents to the Manager
  • Participate in staff training and orientation and educate new department employees
  • Collaborate with Security to inventory patient valuables from admission through discharge
  • Attend mandatory education courses and perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • One (1) year customer service-related experience
  • Must be bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Fluent oral/written communication skills in English and Spanish
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients/families, healthcare staff, and external providers
  • Ability to handle complex, timely, and confidential information with discretion
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and deliver high-quality work with minimal supervision under tight deadlines
  • Proficiency with computers and computer software
  • Ability to work effectively cross-culturally
  • Ability to adjust and work efficiently in a fast-paced, stressful environment
  • Ability to perform duties with a culturally and socially diverse patient population
  • Ability to read, write, reason, and talk
  • Ability to stand/walk constantly and perform occasional lifting, carrying, kneeling, stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling up to 20 lbs
