About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead and direct daily transportation operations across all ports, including dispatch strategy, driver allocation, and service execution
- Adjust staffing models, routing strategies, and vendor utilization based on real-time operational conditions
- Resolve operational escalations and determine corrective actions
- Establish and implement operational standards, workflows, and best practices across all ports
- Own same-day service coverage decisions, including driver reallocations, vendor deployment, service recovery, and last-minute coverage gaps
- Partner with the General Manager on operational strategies aligned with company objectives
- Own and analyze KPIs including driver utilization, cost per move, service levels, and vendor performance
- Identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities and implement corrective action plans
- Drive continuous improvement to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve service quality
- Optimize the balance between in-house and third-party transportation resources
- Oversee transportation costs and third-party vendor spend against budgets and financial targets
- Approve and validate invoices, resolve discrepancies, and enforce vendor compliance with contractual terms
- Develop and implement cost-control strategies and accountability measures
- Ensure adherence to safety programs, regulatory requirements, and HSEQ standards
- Oversee vehicle maintenance programs and safety monitoring systems
- Establish and enforce compliance protocols and audit readiness
- Liaise between Local Operations Managers and nationwide transportation vendors
- Coordinate fleet-related programs including vehicle registrations, telematics, maintenance systems, and transportation support services
- Support centralized vendor initiatives and partner with Operations Managers on local execution
- Monitor vendor responsiveness, service quality, and issue resolution across markets
- Coordinate priorities between Transportation Operations, Billing, and Data teams
- Guide coordinators and support staff and influence staffing, training, and performance expectations
- Design and implement scalable processes, systems, and reporting frameworks for national transportation operations
- Drive standardization, system enhancements, automation, and operational technology improvements
- Abide by company HSEQ policies and procedures and perform additional assigned duties
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School diploma or GED required
- Bachelor’s degree in business, maritime, logistics, or a related field strongly preferred
- A combination of relevant education (e.g., degree, certifications) and hands-on experience is preferred
- Experience with KPI management, cost control, and operational performance optimization is required
- Experience managing dispatch operations, vendor relationships, and multi-site or multi-market logistics environments is strongly preferred
- Proficient in using computer software and applications, with ability to quickly adapt to new technologies and tools
- Ability to make independent, real-time decisions in fast-paced, high-pressure environments
- Experience optimizing transportation operations, including dispatch strategy, routing, and resource allocation
- Strong analytical skills for interpreting KPIs, identifying trends, and implementing data-driven improvements
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong organization, detail orientation, time management, and prioritization skills
- Experience managing budgets, controlling costs, and validating vendor invoices
- Ability to manage vendor performance, negotiate effectively, and enforce service and contractual standards
- Ability to lead change, drive process improvements, and implement scalable operational solutions
- Strong conflict-resolution and problem-solving skills
- Ability to collaborate across operations, billing, and data/analytics teams
- Self-directed, results-oriented, and capable of high ownership and accountability
- Must follow company safety protocols and workplace policies
- Occasional ability to lift office supplies or documents weighing up to 25 pounds
