About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Plan, direct, and control assigned vessel activities with substantial autonomy
- Serve as primary operational decision-maker for vessel port call planning, execution, and stakeholder coordination
- Determine vessel services, vendor selection, and operational priorities
- Evaluate operational, financial, and regulatory factors and mitigate risks affecting vessel turnaround and cost
- Oversee and approve vessel documentation, financial transactions, and disbursement accounts
- Identify, assess, and resolve complex operational issues, service disruptions, regulatory challenges, and scheduling conflicts
- Coordinate terminal operators, service providers, government agencies, internal teams, and other stakeholders
- Board vessels as needed as the company’s on-site representative and perform onboard and documentation activities
- Provide guidance to support personnel
- Maintain on-call coverage, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
- Participate in safety meetings and initiatives and maintain compliance with safety policies and regulations
- Prepare and deliver Port Disbursement forecasts to clients
- Maintain communication with principals, customers, port service providers, internal teams, and government agencies
- Participate in local maritime organizations such as the Propeller Club
- Ensure accurate and timely communications and compliant vessel and customer documentation
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma or GED required
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Maritime Studies, or related field preferred
- Minimum of two (2) years of relevant maritime or port services industry experience preferred
- ASBA Agency Certification required or must be obtained within six (6) months of hire
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel) and other business software
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to plan, prioritize, and manage multiple concurrent tasks in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable motor vehicle record required
- Reliable transportation and automobile insurance meeting state requirements
- Must possess or obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) within ninety (90) days of hire
- Ability to safely board vessels using gangways, ladders, or launches
- Ability to work in variable weather conditions and dynamic port environments
- Flexible availability including days, nights, weekends, and some holidays, with travel to and from marine vessels while in port
- Ability to lift and carry equipment or supplies up to 50 pounds
- Compliance with U.S. Coast Guard, OSHA, company, and maritime safety regulations
- Mandatory participation in safety drills, emergency response training, and safety briefings
