About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead the organisation-wide implementation and embedding of NZTA’s Te Kete National Standard for project and programme iwi engagement
- Develop the forward work programme, supporting tools and a high-quality change approach
- Strengthen organisational capability to engage and partner effectively with Māori
- Provide trusted strategic advice to senior leaders
- Help incorporate Te Kete into relevant transport standards and guidance
- Measure and report on benefits achieved
- Support NZTA and its contractors to meet legislative and Te Tiriti o Waitangi obligations
- Represent NZTA in hui and kōrero with iwi and hapū
- Provide clear national direction rather than supporting individual infrastructure projects
Requirements
What you’ll need- Strong stakeholder engagement, influencing and advisory skills
- Ability to provide trusted and pragmatic advice to senior leaders
- Understanding of infrastructure development and delivery, asset management, maintenance and operational environments
- Strong knowledge of Te Ao Māori
- Ability to fluently communicate in te reo Māori to a broad audience
- Expertise in developing effective, best-practice partnerships with Māori
- Strong understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, Crown obligations, Treaty settlement commitments and relevant legislative requirements
- Experience embedding standardised practice at an organisational or system level within a large or complex environment
- Change leadership experience would be advantageous
- Relevant tertiary qualification, or equivalent demonstrated experience and expertise gained through professional, iwi, hapū or community leadership pathways
- Legal right to live and work in New Zealand
