About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide specialist geospatial advice to support evidence-based transport decision-making
- Lead geospatial improvement and mapping projects from scoping through delivery
- Work with multidisciplinary teams to understand business needs and identify opportunities for geospatial solutions
- Improve the use of spatial information and systems across NZTA Waka Kotahi
- Conduct spatial analysis and mapping
- Balance stakeholder needs, priorities, dependencies, risks, time, cost and quality
- Develop reusable geospatial solutions
- Assure the quality of geospatial data and products
- Communicate technical information clearly to varied audiences
- Strengthen consistent geospatial practice across the organisation
- Coach Geospatial Analysts and share technical knowledge
- Champion geospatial capability and build internal, cross-government, vendor and industry relationships
Requirements
What you’ll need- Demonstrated expertise in geospatial analysis, mapping, visualisation and spatial data management
- Ability to turn complex information into clear, decision-useful insights
- Ability to translate business needs into practical geospatial products, services or process improvements
- Strong spatial data management and analytical capability
- Excellent understanding of the geospatial industry
- Experience with geospatial data management workflows, including FME
- Experience using Esri technologies, including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS Online
- Ability to scope and lead geospatial initiatives through delivery
- Ability to balance stakeholder needs, priorities, dependencies, risks, time, cost and quality
- Relationship-management capability across multidisciplinary teams and with stakeholders, technical specialists, partners and vendors
- Sound judgement and problem-solving capability
- Ability to work independently, navigate ambiguity, manage competing priorities and identify when escalation is required
- Ability to review and assure geospatial data, analysis and products
- Ability to coach and support others through practical guidance, peer review, knowledge sharing and constructive feedback
- Experience with geospatial automation, ETL workflows, field data collection applications, enterprise reporting tools or complementary data technologies would be useful
- Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience
- Knowledge of, or willingness to develop an understanding of, Te Ao Māori, tikanga, te reo Māori and Te Tiriti o Waitangi as applied in the public sector
