About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Lead the design, engineering, delivery, and operation of the machine-learning and conversational AI platform powering automated patient and customer interactions
Define AI/ML engineering strategy, standards, and roadmaps
Direct teams building data and feature pipelines, training and evaluating models, and productionizing conversational AI services
Establish the AI/ML engineering vision, operating model, and technical standards for coding, testing, security, and observability
Translate product and business roadmaps into multi-quarter engineering plans, milestones, staffing models, and budgets
Direct development across data ingestion, feature computation, labeling, training, evaluation, packaging, deployment, and inference
Implement model lifecycle management and governance, including reproducibility, experiment tracking, versioning, approvals, and rollback
Build and scale feature stores, model registries, and training/inference platforms while optimizing cost, latency, throughput, and reliability SLAs
Collaborate with Product, Risk, Legal, and Compliance to document model intent, limitations, and human-in-the-loop mechanisms and prepare HIPAA audit artifacts
Lead incident response for model and service regressions
Mentor staff and develop hiring and career paths for AI/ML engineering roles
Perform other duties as assigned
Comply with all policies and standards
Remain knowledgeable about applicable laws, standards, and regulatory requirements and ensure compliance

Requirements

What you’ll need

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Data Science, or related field; equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
8 years of software/ML engineering experience
Hands-on experience productionizing machine-learning or conversational AI systems
Minimum of 3 years in a technical leadership or team-lead capacity
Experience with LLM and generative AI applications, including RAG, prompting, evaluation, and fine-tuning
Experience designing and operating systems in AWS (SageMaker, Bedrock) or a comparable cloud
Strong SQL and experience with modern data platforms such as Snowflake or Databricks
Experience with MLOps tooling, CI/CD, and infrastructure automation
Track record of quantifying business impact from AI investments
Deep knowledge of machine learning, natural language processing, conversational AI, retrieval-augmented generation, embeddings, and large language model-based systems
Experience with cloud platforms, MLOps tooling, containers, and CI/CD
Ability to translate technical concepts into business language for non-technical executives
Strong stakeholder management and cross-functional influence
Ability to operate with ambiguity and shifting priorities
Ability to comply with applicable laws, accreditation standards, regulations, and organizational policies
