About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Ensure availability of equipment and supplies for endoscopy and surgical procedures
  • Competently scrub for surgical procedures and assist with endoscopy procedures
  • Perform duties as assigned by the RN
  • Perform direct patient care duties
  • Organize activities and supplies according to the surgery schedule and department needs
  • Provide patient services appropriate to patients’ ages and developmental stages under staff nurse supervision
  • Communicate patient care information to patients, family members, and co-workers
  • Maintain required clinical knowledge, technical skills, training, and credentials
  • Adapt to changes caused by unit census, patient acuity, and resource availability
  • Remain compliant with applicable laws, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Report known or suspected unethical, safety, privacy, or compliance concerns

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Graduation from an accredited surgical technologist program or military program (Online surgical tech programs not accepted) OR 5 years of Surgical Technologist Experience
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association
  • Expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic techniques
  • Knowledge of human anatomy, surgery procedures, and implementation instruments and technologies
  • Basic analytical skills
  • Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process
  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule (e.g. 24/7, weekend, holiday, on call availability)
  • Ability to perform heavy work, exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, 25 to 50 pounds frequently, and 10 to 20 pounds constantly
  • Ability to work with exposure to blood, body fluid, tissue, communicable diseases, hazardous medications, and hazardous waste
