About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Write well-structured, testable, efficient, and maintainable software for Octopus’ connected devices
Work within a dedicated cross-functional team on key customer or internal products
Own IoT products and features, ensuring delivery of high-quality, modular, and maintainable code
Manage tickets and development efforts with hardware and software teams
Collaborate with customer-facing and software teams to investigate and resolve bugs and implement new features
Participate in code reviews and maintain high coding standards
Work flexibly across projects to meet challenging, customer-driven deadlines
Learn new technologies and skills as required
Drive the firmware lifecycle from initial requirements through development and field deployment
Collaborate across platform and app engineering teams

Requirements

What you’ll need

Proficiency in C for real-time operation on highly constrained microcontrollers and custom hardware using official vendor APIs
Hands-on experience with Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS), such as FreeRTOS
Fluency in scripting languages such as Python and Bash
Version control using Git
Ability to read schematics and data sheets for hardware and software debugging
Practical knowledge of serial protocols including SPI, I2C, UART, RS232, and Modbus
Knowledge of networking fundamentals including MAC, IP, TCP, TLS, and DHCP
Familiarity with IoT security technologies such as secure boot, encrypted flash, TLS, and public key cryptography
Hands-on experience with board bring-up, design validation, code optimization, and debugging via JTAG/SWD or oscilloscopes, multimeters, and logic analyzers
B.S. in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, or a related field
Nice to have: ESP32 and ESP-IDF experience
Nice to have: IoT products with cloud platforms such as AWS IoT
Nice to have: OTA firmware updates within automated build environments
Nice to have: BLE, Wi-Fi, or Zigbee experience
Nice to have: Connected IoT devices within complex, multi-system ecosystems
