About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Own the programme and development budget from early concept through design freeze, including siting, connection application, planning, consents, procurement and long-lead items
- Appoint and manage consultants, ICPs and study providers
- Surface project risks and communicate them clearly to stakeholders
- Own the electrical concept through sign-off, including single-line diagrams, general arrangements, switchgear and plant layouts, cable routes, metering and communications architecture
- Direct and interrogate load flow, short-circuit, protection coordination, arc flash, earthing and power quality studies
- Chair design reviews and stage gates, presenting options and recommendations to the Project Lead and customer
- Lead the grid interface with DNO, TO and NESO, including applications, offers, technical requirements, securities and milestones
- Coordinate contestable and non-contestable scope, ICP/IDNO activities and MPAN registration
- Own budget through completion, including capex inputs, value engineering and optioneering
- Witness FAT/SAT, develop commissioning plans and sequences of operation, and deliver energisation and handover
- Rapidly develop working knowledge of unfamiliar technologies or scopes and deliver first-of-a-kind projects
- Remain the electrical owner through construction, commissioning and energisation with a delivery team
Requirements
What you’ll need- Master’s degree, or equivalent, in electrical or power systems engineering
- 5+ years delivering energy or infrastructure projects
- Strong grounding in medium-voltage and high-voltage systems
- Infrastructure experience with substations, networks, industrial plant, data centres, utilities, water or transport
- Experience dealing with ground conditions, easements, consents, tie-ins to live assets and construction sequencing
- Personally held a programme and budget on a development or pre-construction project
- GB/European grid connection experience from connection offer to grid code compliance and energisation
- Working knowledge of the Grid Code, CUSC, SQSS, G99/G100, ENA engineering recommendations and BS 7671
- Ability to coordinate multi-discipline designs and identify weak technical responses
- Comfortable being the single point of accountability and holding external parties accountable without formal authority
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to site
- CEng welcome but not essential
- Preferred: BESS, private wire, microgrid or behind-the-meter generation experience
- Preferred: data centre or mission-critical power experience, including MV/LV distribution, UPS, generators, redundancy topologies and commissioning levels
- Preferred: ETAP, PowerFactory, IPSA, PSS/E, PSCAD or Python
- Preferred: IEC 61850, Modbus, DNP3, SCADA and metering data flows
- Preferred: NEC or FIDIC contract and change management
- Preferred: APM, PRINCE2, MS Project or Primavera project management credentials
