About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Partner with the CEO to set technology direction and run a business unit
- Own business-unit priorities, execution, and outcomes
- Work with product and commercial teams to connect customer demand, investment decisions, and delivery
- Turn AI, LLMs, and automation into practical product and engineering capabilities
- Define success measures and move promising AI initiatives into production
- Evaluate AI initiatives based on quality, reliability, cost, and customer value
- Lead Engineering Managers, Tech Leads, infrastructure leaders, and Data Science
- Set priorities, delegate decision-making ownership, develop leaders, and ensure accountability for delivery and outcomes
- Evolve high-throughput, real-time infrastructure for growth
- Balance experimentation with resilience, security, and operational discipline
- Partner directly with the technical CEO/founder to challenge ideas, make decisions, and execute strategy
Requirements
What you’ll need- Strong engineering or architecture background
- Ability to challenge design decisions with senior engineers
- Ability to connect technical decisions to product priorities and long-term business needs
- Commercial understanding and willingness to run a business unit alongside a technology organisation
- Ability to understand customer needs, make clear trade-offs, and take responsibility for business results
- Hands-on experience building with AI tools and workflows
- Ability to evaluate AI value, limitations, and responsible production deployment requirements
- Experience leading engineering organisations through managers and leads
- Experience building strong teams and fostering autonomy, accountability, and continuous improvement
