About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform maintenance and repairs to ensure optimum efficiency and safety on company cars, trucks, cranes, tractors, forklifts, trenching equipment, trailers, portable air compressors, and hydraulically operated equipment
- Diagnose, repair, and rebuild mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and air brake systems to factory specifications
- Service fuel systems, including computerized carburetors and fuel injection
- Repair starting and electrical generating devices
- Repair steering, suspension, and drive shaft systems on transportation and power-operated equipment
- Replace hydraulic components on aerial platforms, digger derricks, cranes, and other power-operated equipment
- Diagnose and repair conventional and electronic ignition systems
- Service emission systems according to state and federal laws
- Repair electrical components, gauges, lighting, remote start/stop, and throttle control devices
- Service R-12 and 134A air conditioning systems
- Attend mechanical and hydraulic technical schools
- Perform inspections, diagnostics, preventative maintenance, fluid changes, transmission service, and coolant flushes
- Diagnose and repair Allison and World Class transmission problems
- Perform hydraulic repairs on hoses, valves, cylinders, and components
- Weld with stick and MIG welding systems
- Lead, coordinate, and prioritize work activity as needed
- Work from a service truck and perform repairs with limited resources
- Communicate with team members, leaders, and customers
- Perform all other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School Diploma/GED and certificate of completion in an Automotive Technology program, or Associate's Degree in Automotive Technology (Journey)
- High School Diploma/GED and certificate of completion in an Automotive or Diesel Technology program, or Associate's Degree in Automotive or Diesel Technology (Senior)
- 5 years mechanic experience at a full service repair facility including diesel and hydraulic repairs (Journey)
- 5 years experience as a mechanic at a full service repair facility including diesel or hydraulic repairs (Senior)
- Alternatively, 5 years military-related training and experience for Journey level, or High School Diploma/GED plus 10 years as a mechanic for Senior level
- Permanent residence within a 45-minute driving time to the assigned service center
- ASE Certification in Medium and Heavy Duty Brake diagnostics and repair, required or obtainable within 90 days of hire
- DOT Certified Inspector certification, required or obtainable within 90 days
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License with DOT certification, required or obtainable within 180 days of hire
- ASE or MAC Certification in Mobile Air Conditioning or equivalent, required or obtainable within 90 days for Journey level
- Full set of standard and specialty mechanic tools
- Ability to operate motor vehicles safely in all traffic, weather, and light conditions
- Ability to work non-standard schedules, including rotating shifts, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, on-call, and call-outs
- Ability to travel throughout company offices or work sites; mobile positions require daily travel and overnight stays at least 50% of the time
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
- DOT drug test, physical, and driver qualification history covering 7 years
- Job-specific physical assessment
- Ability to use diagnostic equipment, scanners, digital volt/ohm meters, and starting and charging system testers
- Ability to read and interpret electrical vehicle and equipment hydraulic schematics
- Ability to diagnose and repair gas and diesel engines, Class 1 through Class 8 vehicles, construction equipment, transmissions, hydraulic systems, brake systems including ABS, and preventative-maintenance systems
- Ability to weld using stick and MIG welding systems
- Ability to retrieve, use, and interpret diagnostic scanner and PC software information
- Computer skills with knowledge of MS Office Suite applications
- Knowledge of safety requirements and personal protective equipment
- Mechanical aptitude and familiarity with mechanical equipment
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and comply with company policies and SOPs
