About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform maintenance and repairs to ensure optimum efficiency and safety of company cars, trucks, cranes, tractors, forklifts, trenching equipment, trailers, portable air compressors, and hydraulically operated equipment
- Diagnose and repair conventional and electronic ignition systems, emission systems, electrical components, gauges, lighting, remote start/stop and throttle controls, and air conditioning systems
- Replace hydraulic components on aerial platforms, digger derricks, cranes, and power-operated equipment
- Diagnose, repair, and rebuild starting and electrical generating devices, steering systems, suspension systems, and drive shafts
- Diagnose, repair, and rebuild mechanical, electric, hydraulic, and air brake systems, including fuel systems, computerized carburetors, and fuel injection
- Gather and analyze information to determine safe and effective courses of action
- Resolve technical questions and problems, escalating only the most complex issues
- Follow operating procedures, operating practices, approved work methods, and standard testing practices
- Perform inspections, preventive maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, equipment testing, and documentation
- Attend technical schools to stay current on technologies and industry standards
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School Diploma/GED and Certificate of completion in an Automotive Technology program; or Associate's Degree in Automotive Technology; or 2 years tire/lube service experience
- 5 years Mechanic experience at a full service repair facility including diesel and hydraulic repairs; or 5 years military-related training and experience
- Must progress through the apprentice program within specified timelines
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License with DOT certification required within 90 days, or within 180 days of hire as specified in the certifications section
- ASE certification in light-duty and/or medium-duty brake diagnostics and repair required within 90 days
- ASE or MAC certification in mobile air conditioning or equivalent required within 90 days
- DOT Certified Inspector certification required within 90 days
- Basic set of mechanic's tools, including standard and metric sockets, adjustable wrenches, hammers, combination wrenches, and toolbox
- Ability to perform inspections, diagnostics, repairs, hydraulic repairs, preventive maintenance, welding, and equipment operation
- Ability to read and interpret hydraulic and electrical vehicle schematics
- Ability to use diagnostic scanners, PC software, digital volt-ohm meters, and starting/charging system testers
- Ability to diagnose and repair gas or diesel engines, engine electronics, fuel, electrical, starting, charging, suspension, drivability, transmission, and brake systems on Class 1 through Class 8 vehicles and construction equipment
- Computer skills with knowledge of MS Office Suite applications
- Knowledge of safety requirements and personal protective equipment
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and comply with company policies and SOPs
- Ability to communicate effectively and interact professionally with team members, leaders, and customers
- Ability to work rotating shifts, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, on-call, and call-outs
- Ability to travel frequently throughout company offices or work sites
- Ability to safely operate motor vehicles in all traffic, weather, and light conditions
- Ability to meet physical demands, including frequently lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs
