About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide pastoral counseling and spiritual support to patients, family members/significant others, and staff throughout the hospital
  • Develop a hospital-based "parish"
  • Participate as a member of an ecumenical pastoral care staff
  • Share in staff meetings, on-call responsibilities, and hospital-wide worship experiences
  • Provide direct patient care for emergent and routine requests
  • Assess spiritual needs and concerns using clinical pastoral conversation
  • Communicate and document patient responses to evaluate effectiveness and congruence with the plan of care
  • Participate in an on-call rotation, including possible overnight or weekend shifts
  • Provide religious/spiritual rituals and non-pharmacological interventions
  • Liaise with patients' faith groups/leaders and community or cultural resources
  • Serve as a primary contact for ethics concerns and formal consultations
  • Provide care in hospital, outpatient, extended care facility, and home settings
  • Maintain focus on safety, quality, and efficiency as part of a High Reliability Organization

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's Degree (Required)
  • Knowledge of pastoral care and counseling skills, especially as practiced within the hospital setting
  • Two years ministry experience, including at least one year in a hospital setting
  • Knowledge of medical ethics and legal issues including advance care planning, organ donation, futility of care, and patient rights
