About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support the system-wide Enterprise Master Patient Index (EMPI) for OhioHealth entities using Epic (Care Connect)
  • Support EMPI functions for Community Connect entities as needed
  • Perform duplicate merges, chart corrections, overlays, and other data integrity functions
  • Troubleshoot data integrity issues and maintain one medical record number per patient across OhioHealth systems
  • Monitor overlay reports, potential duplicate patient work queues, and chart correction cases
  • Research patient identity using clinical and registration notes, physician orders, prescriptions, medications, and other records
  • Analyze demographic and clinical data to determine correct patient information
  • Notify downstream systems, departments, and support staff of data integrity or MRN changes
  • Review and process inbound electronic medical record messages and tasks related to care coordination, privacy/security, and protected health information
  • Respond to external facilities and practices regarding health information exchange (HIE) operations and support
  • Present complex patient chart and data integrity information and answer questions across departments
  • Complete required training and recertification for professional growth
  • Provide afterhours/on-call support for urgent requests and coverage when required
  • Attend meetings and perform other assigned duties and projects

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree
  • RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator) certification from the American Health Information Management Association
  • RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician) certification from the American Health Information Management Association
  • 2 years or greater of Data Integrity/EMPI Data Experience
  • Effective critical thinking and deductive reasoning skills
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements, state and federal laws, Joint Commission, the 21st Century Cures Act, and HIPAA
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently with little to no supervision
  • Data abstraction and computer skills
  • Excellent customer service and organizational skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple critical tasks under pressure
  • Ability to provide afterhours/on-call support if required
