About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform phlebotomy and/or specimen processing depending on job location
  • Perform routine laboratory procedures according to established laboratory guidelines
  • Handle blood, tissue, fecal matter, sputum, urine, spinal fluid, and other body fluids
  • Adhere to safety and infection control practices
  • Provide customer service to clinicians and clients
  • Communicate with physician office staff, clinical staff, laboratory associates, patients, and families
  • Use service recovery when necessary
  • Perform computer-related tasks using LIS and e-Source
  • Train new employees and students
  • Adhere to regulatory requirements including National Patient Safety Goals, CAP, OSHA, JCAHO, CMS, OSH, and laboratory policies and procedures
  • Maintain competencies and complete mandatory required education (ACE)
  • Perform miscellaneous assigned tasks

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School or GED (Required)
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 6 months - 1 year experience in phlebotomy and/or specimen processing
  • Customer service knowledge
  • Computer skills
  • Communication skills
  • Medical terminology knowledge
  • Active driver's license and personal auto insurance required for associates working in a skilled nursing facility setting
  • Ability to handle blood, tissue, fecal matter, sputum, urine, spinal fluid, and other body fluids, potentially contaminated with infectious diseases
  • Adherence to safety, infection control, regulatory compliance, and laboratory policies and procedures
