About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform phlebotomy and/or specimen processing depending on job location
  • Perform routine laboratory procedures according to established laboratory guidelines and principles of human growth and development
  • Provide customer service to clinicians and clients
  • Communicate professionally by telephone with physician office staff, clinical staff, and laboratory associates
  • Communicate with patients and their families and use service recovery when necessary
  • Perform associated computer-related tasks, including LIS and e-Source
  • Train new employees and students
  • Maintain regulatory compliance and follow laboratory policies and procedures
  • Perform miscellaneous tasks as assigned
  • Focus on safety, quality, and efficiency as part of a High Reliability Organization

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School or GED (Required)
  • Driver's License - Department of Motor Vehicles
  • Customer service skills
  • Computer skills
  • Communication skills
  • Medical terminology knowledge
  • 6 months–1 year experience in phlebotomy and/or specimen processing
  • Associates working in a skilled nursing facility setting are required to have an active driver’s license and carry personal auto insurance
  • Ability to handle blood, tissue, fecal matter, sputum, urine, spinal fluid, and other body fluids, which may be contaminated with infectious diseases including HIV and other blood-borne pathogens
  • Adherence to safety and infection control practices
  • Adherence to regulatory compliance including National Patient Safety Goals, CAP, OSHA, JCAHO, CMS, OSH, and laboratory policies and procedures
  • Maintaining competencies and completing mandatory required education (ACE)
