About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Define the scope of technical programs and develop effective, quality solutions to unique or controversial challenges
- Apply technical experience and site systems to resolve complex problems and achieve quality, timely, and cost-effective results
- Provide guidance and assistance to less senior professionals
- Incorporate advanced technical practices and complex technical requirements, materials, processes, coordination, and oversight into problem solving and program planning
- Lead the determination of solutions to complex problems and provide direction across department lines
- Evaluate program results and prepare reports and recommendations
- Identify and recommend improvements where established technology and methodology are inadequate
- Keep informed of technological advancements in the area of expertise
- Prepare plans, schedules, budgets, and personnel requirements for technical tasks
- Develop schedules, monitor progress and budget expenditures, and review work quality
- Communicate results and objectives verbally and in manuscript form to customers, colleagues, and management
- Occasionally prepare reports for external publication
- Enhance expertise through leadership in local technical societies
- Provide design and construction oversight of structural engineering tasks to SRNS
- Analyze structural systems for static and dynamic loads using manual computations and computer programs
- Design concrete, steel, aluminum, stainless steel, timber, and composite structures
- Perform foundation and anchorage design
- Perform structural analysis for impact, overpressure, and other accident conditions
- Prepare CSI specifications and review vendor documents
- Provide engineering services using SRNS processes and procedures under SRNS programmatic guidance
Requirements
What you’ll need- US Citizenship Required
- Ph.D. degree in an applicable science or engineering discipline and 5+ years of experience, OR a MS with 8+ years of experience, OR a BS with 10+ years of experience or more
- BS Degree in Civil Engineering or current registration as a Professional Engineer in either Civil or Structural Engineering
- Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in design and analysis of nuclear or industrial facilities
- Working knowledge of STAAD
- Working knowledge of National Codes and Standards such as IBC, AISC (ASD and LRFD), ACI, AWS, NFPA, and OSHA
- Ability to perform weekly field walk downs of the job site
- Ability to navigate uneven construction surfaces and work in progress, walk distances over half a mile, climb ladders to access remote areas, and wear protective clothing
- Proficiency in MicroStation 2D Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) software is preferred
- Previous experience working at SRS is preferred
- PE license is preferred
