About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Shape complex, cross-system integrations, including partner/alliance integration APIs
Define reusable templates, standards, and automation for recurring operational work
Identify root causes and drive architectural, monitoring, or process fixes
Mentor team members, including non-engineers who write code and build automations
Partner with commercial, product, and engineering stakeholders to scope solutions and make technical trade-offs
Clarify ambiguous problems, scope work, and create executable technical plans
Identify risks, edge cases, security concerns, and downstream impacts; document knowledge in runbooks
Participate in the on-call rotation, triage and address member-support issues, and assist internal investigations

Requirements

What you’ll need

5–8 years writing readable, tested, and efficient production code
Strong Ruby on Rails experience, or exceptional backend engineering experience in another language with willingness to ramp quickly on Rails
Experience with relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL
Experience building and consuming APIs and integrations across service boundaries
Fluency with AI-assisted development and AI coding assistants
Experience building API-driven automation workflows with Tines, n8n, or similar
Track record of identifying inefficiencies and shipping solutions with measurable value
Solid debugging and optimization skills
Strong grasp of SDLC processes and frameworks
Excellent verbal and written communication and collaboration skills
Experience in solutions engineering, implementation, or customer-facing technical roles
Experience mentoring engineers or leading projects
Experience with React or Vue is a bonus
Healthcare or regulated/data-sensitive domain experience is a bonus
