About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Manage patient intakes and accurately record vital signs, medical history, and patient concerns
  • Perform venipuncture, blood draws, urine dipsticks, stool collection, and rapid Strep, Flu, COVID, and RSV tests
  • Label and handle specimens properly
  • Perform EKGs and point-of-care testing under direct Physician or APP supervision
  • Prepare patients and exam rooms for visits and procedures
  • Assist providers during physical exams and in-office treatments
  • Clean, sterilize, and maintain medical equipment and instruments
  • Operate and maintain CBC analyzers and urinalysis machines
  • Prepare, process, and store specimens appropriately
  • Run and document glucose monitoring, PT/INR, urine pregnancy, and fecal occult blood tests
  • Conduct and troubleshoot quality control procedures and report critical values
  • Use Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and Electronic Medical Records (EMR) to manage lab orders and clinical data
  • Package and send specimens to external laboratories such as Labcorp and Quest
  • Maintain professional communication with providers, staff, and patients
  • Support multiple NYCBS locations as needed

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Medical Assistant Certification
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • At least 1 year of relevant experience in outpatient care or lab settings
  • Proficient in EMR/LIS systems (e.g., LABDAQ)
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
