About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Administer chemotherapeutic and biologic agents, as well as supportive care medications as prescribed by a physician
- Recognize and treat cancer-related and treatment-related issues
- Monitor and chart vital signs and document in the medication administration record
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to share expertise and knowledge
- Participate in cancer research trials and administer medications per protocol
- Provide supportive resources to patients and caregivers to promote health and wellness
- Teach patients and caregivers regarding treatment expectations
- Monitor patient status during chemotherapy, immunotherapy and supportive medication administration
- Chart patient responses to treatment and medication
- Educate patients and caregivers about follow-up care and emergency services
Requirements
What you’ll need- Valid New York State RN License
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required
- Excellent assessment, communication, and organizational skills
- Proficiency with an EMR (preferred)
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk working on a computer, standing, bending and reaching
- Knowledge of standard precautions and the ability to utilize appropriate PPE when administering cytotoxic agents and handling bloodborne pathogens and bodily fluids
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times
- Reliable transportation to travel to NYCBS locations for patient care needs
