About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Build a People function supporting a high-performance, strength-based culture across the UK and US
  • Own culture, onboarding, internal communications, performance management, capability, employee relations, compliance, reward, benefits, systems, and People operations
  • Embed the Oner Mindset into management, reviews, and development
  • Build high-performance standards, accountability, and support
  • Embed Oner culture across the US as the business scales
  • Own onboarding from signed contract through the new starter’s first weeks
  • Establish mechanisms, communications, manager behaviours, and visual cues that carry culture across distance and time zones
  • Build and maintain internal communications across both markets and all levels
  • Own reviews, performance improvement plans, warnings, and probation processes
  • Recruit and direct the L&D Manager
  • Build capability and leadership development
  • Coach and develop line managers
  • Own UK and US employment compliance, policy, risk, and employee relations casework
  • Manage escalations and determine when legal input is needed
  • Maintain leave, benefits, conduct, and flexible-working policies
  • Own benefits across both markets and partner with Finance on pay structure, benchmarking, and reward consistency
  • Build resilient, documented People operations and own People systems and data
  • Track turnover, engagement, and performance trends
  • Partner with the Talent team to create a joined-up employee experience
  • Lead and develop the People team and foster continuous learning and improvement

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Proven People leadership experience through a period of real growth
  • Ideally UK-based with strong, direct US employment experience, including compliance, employee relations, and benefits across both markets
  • Previous experience operating at Director level and owning a function
  • Previous experience at a fast-growth, founder-led company
  • Track record of building high-performance, strength-based cultures
  • Confidence owning employee relations and compliance risk independently
  • Good judgement on when to escalate matters
  • Comfortable being hands-on early while operating strategically
  • Clear, collaborative approach to defining responsibilities between People and Talent teams
