About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Build and maintain infrastructure enabling developers to ship reliably at scale
- Manage the infrastructure platform, deployment automation, and observability through infrastructure-as-code
- Deploy, monitor, and maintain highly available systems using Terraform, CockroachDB, GKE/Kubernetes, Cloud SQL, Bigtable, Google Composer/Airflow, Cloud Storage, BigQuery, Pub/Sub, Cloud Run, and other GCP services
- Maintain and extend a large, mature Terraform codebase
- Analyze systems and recommend improvements to performance, availability, and cost
- Automate manual systems to minimize toil
- Develop and maintain integrations with monitoring and alerting systems including Google Cloud Monitoring, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, Checkly, and Rootly
- Drive incident response best practices for on-call engineering teams
- Participate in the SRE team's on-call rotation for core infrastructure
- Collaborate on architectural decisions and direction for services and initiatives
- Report to the Principal Site Reliability Engineer
Requirements
What you’ll need- B.S. or M.S. in computer science or a related field or relevant experience
- At least 5+ years of experience, with 3+ years supporting production systems
- Strong interest and experience with Kubernetes, networking, and infrastructure-as-code
- Experience with Terraform/OpenTofu
- Exposure to at least one major cloud platform
- Evaluate technologies and solutions based on merit, stability, performance, and debuggability
- Practical experience with SQL, NoSQL, and object storage, including selecting based on access patterns and scalability needs
- Strong computer science foundation
- Strong ownership of work and platform responsibilities
- Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform
- Strong troubleshooting and issue decomposition ability
- Experience with high-throughput, low-latency services
- Experience working with a distributed team
- Experience with IAM, auditing, and cloud security management
- Experience with GIS mapping systems and tiles
- Experience with Claude Code
- Experience with Airflow or equivalent ETL systems
