About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Advise on French and EU regulatory developments and their business implications
- Assess French and EU laws, enforcement developments, and policy proposals affecting OpenAI
- Develop legal positions, practical recommendations, implementation plans, and actionable advice
- Support OpenAI’s engagement with French and EU regulators, policymakers, and local government
- Prepare legal analysis, briefing materials, consultation responses, and policy-position input
- Serve as a trusted legal partner to local leadership and business teams on the establishment, expansion, and operation of OpenAI’s French presence
- Advise on local partnerships, research and university collaborations, marketing, events, and other commercial initiatives
- Provide local legal support on governance, office development, employment, and workplace compliance
- Coordinate with EMEA and global legal colleagues, GA, Policy, Regulatory, Product, Privacy, Commercial, and IP teams
- Identify legal requirements, dependencies, and material risks; coordinate specialist involvement and carry actions through implementation
Requirements
What you’ll need- Master 2 in Law, Bac+5, or equivalent
- Substantial experience advising on French law
- Breadth across commercial, employment, corporate, and operational legal matters
- Relevant in-house and/or law firm, government, or institutional legal experience
- Experience with regulatory engagement, policy development, or enforcement matters
- Experience interpreting complex legislation and policy proposals
- Experience developing legal recommendations and preparing submissions, consultation responses, or briefing materials
- Ability to provide practical country-level legal support across specialist teams
- Sound judgment in unfamiliar areas and ability to identify when to involve specialists
- Effective communication and negotiation in French and English
- Ability to explain complex legal issues clearly to business stakeholders and senior leaders
- Ability to manage varied workloads and competing priorities
- Interest in AI and emerging technologies
- Ability to work from the Paris office three days per week
- Authorization to work in France
