About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design, build, and operate core components of Auto-review and the broader Guardian platform
- Build production systems that evaluate agent actions in real time, detect potentially harmful behavior, and support safe recovery or escalation paths
- Improve oversight systems' understanding of user intent, environmental context, permissions, and personalization signals while protecting privacy
- Partner with alignment researchers to turn prototypes, evaluations, and monitoring techniques into scalable product capabilities
- Collaborate with Product, Security, Infrastructure, and engineering teams to integrate Guardian capabilities into OpenAI agent experiences
- Develop evaluations, adversarial tests, and monitoring for safety performance, false positives, latency, and user impact
- Own projects end to end, contribute to technical direction and design reviews, and investigate failures to improve reliability
- Work across architecture, implementation, evaluation, and operations from exploration through production deployment
Requirements
What you’ll need- Experience building and shipping complex production software, with ownership across design, implementation, deployment, and operation
- Experience building with AI agents or large language models in a core product, startup, or technically serious independent project
- Strong software engineering fundamentals
- Ability to design reliable backend services, APIs, and infrastructure
- Sound product-engineering judgment across safety, usability, speed, and reliability
- Ability to work closely with researchers and translate open-ended ideas into practical systems
- Comfortable with ambiguity and taking initiative
- Clear communication across technical disciplines
- Ability to work from the London office three days per week
- Authorization to work in the country where the job is located
