About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Serve as project manager for a portfolio of high-priority ambulatory strategic initiatives
- Develop and maintain project charters, timelines, milestones, and deliverables with process owners and executive sponsors
- Lead cross-functional project teams, coordinate stakeholders, and remove barriers
- Identify, track, mitigate, and escalate project risks and issues
- Ensure projects deliver measurable improvements in access, quality, safety, financial performance, and patient/staff experience
- Develop, produce, and distribute timely status reports to executive sponsors, stakeholders, and the APPO Operations Committee
- Standardize reporting tools and formats for leadership decision-making and portfolio-wide visibility
- Synthesize project-level data into portfolio-level insights and trends for executive audiences
- Facilitate and lead the Ambulatory Strategic Planning Executive Steering Committee, including agenda development, materials preparation, meeting facilitation, and action-item follow-up
- Partner with leadership and executive sponsors on initiative prioritization and batching
- Support strategic oversight, barrier removal, and progress monitoring
- Manage resource allocation and roadmapping across the ambulatory project portfolio
- Forecast resource needs and identify capacity constraints
- Maintain a rolling roadmap of current and upcoming initiatives
- Coordinate execution, risk, and resource planning with the APPO Operations Committee
- Maintain and govern a complete inventory of ambulatory improvement and project management work, including strategic plan tactics, KPIs, executive sponsors, and sequencing
- Audit and update inventory data to support reporting, governance, and resource planning
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of the APPO mission and Ambulatory Quality & Population Health team goals
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, business, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Relevant education/training in project management, portfolio management, or performance improvement (e.g., Lean/Opex)
- 5+ years of experience in project and/or portfolio management, including managing multiple concurrent projects, developing status reporting, and engaging with executive stakeholders
- Demonstrated project management skills covering scope, schedule, budget, and risk management across multiple concurrent initiatives
- Demonstrated portfolio management experience, including resource management, prioritization/intake, and roadmapping
- Strong executive-level facilitation and presentation skills; experience leading steering committees or governance bodies
- Ability to synthesize complex project data into clear, concise reporting for executive audiences
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with project/portfolio management tools and standard office software (Word, PowerPoint, Excel; Smartsheet or equivalent a plus)
- Ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams and build trusted relationships with clinical and operational leaders
- Familiarity with Lean/Opex or other structured process improvement methodologies
- PMP (Project Management Professional) or equivalent project management certification required, or ability to obtain within 18 months of hire
- Master's degree preferred
- Experience in a healthcare or ambulatory care setting preferred
- Experience facilitating executive-level committees or governance structures preferred
- Experience with Lean/Opex methodologies preferred
- Lean/Opex certification preferred
- Ability to work virtually and in-person
