About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Act as an architect within the Orders Platform team and set technical direction for order modeling, storage, replication, and reconciliation
Design and build event-sourced and replicated-state systems resilient to retries, network partitions, concurrent edits, and partial failure
Partner with Product, Payments, Reporting, point-of-sale, and mobile engineering teams to ship reliable ordering flows end to end
Review designs and code, mentor engineers, and build team fluency in distributed-systems patterns
Improve observability, replay, and recovery to identify and resolve order-state problems quickly while minimizing costs
Reduce bus-factor risk by sharing context and documenting the platform
Own and evolve the core Orders Platform that takes, tracks, and settles restaurant orders reliably, including during internet outages

Requirements

What you’ll need

Hands-on experience with event sourcing, CRDTs, or comparable approaches to replicated and offline-first data
Experience with idempotency, optimistic concurrency, event replay, projections, and reconciliation
Ability to reason about node disappearance during operations and design for partial failure
Ability to learn specialized technology quickly and improve its robustness
Staff-level experience leading technical direction while remaining hands-on with code
Clear written and verbal communication
Experience building correctness-critical distributed systems
Backend experience in payment or ordering systems preferred
Ability to partner with payments and reporting teams while owning the order side of money-moving flows
Willingness to work directly with restaurants, including in-person visits and phone/text communication
Experience in restaurants, retail, or IT ideally, but not required
Must be currently and permanently based in the United States or Canada
Must address visa sponsorship status
