About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide direct nursing care to residents
- Supervise day-to-day nursing activities performed by nursing assistants
- Direct nursing assistants and ensure compliance with facility policies, procedures, standards, and regulations
- Plan shift services, programs, activities, staffing, and work assignments
- Prepare and administer physician-ordered medications and treatments
- Maintain medication supplies and accurate narcotic records
- Complete admissions, transfers, discharges, medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting, and documentation
- Receive and transcribe physician orders and maintain resident medical records
- Monitor residents’ physical and emotional status and notify physicians and next-of-kin of condition changes
- Perform nursing procedures including catheterization, tube feedings, suction, wound dressing changes, colostomy and drainage-bag care, specimen collection, vital signs, and range-of-motion exercises
- Review and maintain resident care plans and ensure care is delivered according to residents’ needs and wishes
- Coordinate nursing services with physicians, resident services, social and activity programs, families, and support departments
- Participate in quality assurance, facility surveys, infection control, safety, sanitation, staff development, orientation, and continuing education
- Conduct rounds, supervise personnel, provide nursing reports, and address complaints and grievances
- Maintain adequate nursing equipment, supplies, medications, and personal protective equipment
- Complete incident reports and report suspected fraud, safety issues, exposures, and information-security violations
Requirements
What you’ll need- Nursing degree from an accredited college or university, or graduation from an approved LPN/LVN program
- Current, unencumbered, active South Carolina LPN/LVN license required
- Current CPR certification
- Must maintain all required continuing education/licensing
- Must remain in good standing with the State Board of Nursing at all times
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English
- Knowledge and experience with PCC preferred
- Ability to provide care appropriate to residents’ age-related needs
- Knowledge of nursing and medical practices and procedures, and applicable laws, regulations, and guidelines
- Leadership and supervisory ability
- Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant
- Ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret nursing programs, policies, and procedures
- Must meet general health requirements, including a medical and physical examination
- Ability to move, push, pull, move, and/or carry at least 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and distance of 50 feet
- Ability to assist in resident evacuation during emergencies when necessary
