About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Assist the Physical Therapist with treatment plans and direct resident care
  • Treat residents as directed by the Physical Therapist
  • Help residents improve mobility, strength, balance, and independence
  • Encourage and motivate residents through rehabilitation
  • Complete timely, accurate, and compliant documentation
  • Maintain a safe treatment environment through infection control, safety, and equipment maintenance protocols
  • Participate in resident care conferences and rehabilitation meetings as needed
  • Assist the nursing department with training Restorative Aides
  • Communicate with the supervising physical therapist regarding resident progress, goals, physician updates, nursing, interdisciplinary team coordination, residents, families, and discharge planning
  • Provide in-services and training programs for facility staff
  • Educate residents, families, and caregivers on treatment goals, home exercise programs, maintenance programs, safety techniques, and fall prevention
  • Recommend and facilitate ordering durable medical equipment such as splints, walkers, canes, elevated toilet seats, and grab bars
  • Maintain confidentiality of resident and company information
  • Report department equipment problems
  • Contribute to quality assurance, performance improvement initiatives, and rehabilitation program development

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Physical Therapist Assistant Degree from an accredited college/university
  • Associate Degree from an accredited PTA program
  • Active, unencumbered South Carolina PTA license
  • Licensed as a Physical Therapist Assistant in the state and maintain a license in good standing
  • Meet continuing education requirements per state practices
  • CPR certification, if required by licensure
  • Proficient in computer skills, including Net Health and Point Click Care
  • Experience in a fast-paced healthcare setting preferred
  • Ability to read technical procedures and policy/procedure manuals
  • Ability to present information and respond to questions from managers, coworkers, and families
  • Ability to apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions
  • Ability to solve practical problems and interpret written, oral, diagram, or schedule instructions
  • Ability to perform the physical demands of the role, including standing, walking, lifting, pushing, pulling, and assisting/transferring residents
