About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide direct nursing care to residents
- Supervise day-to-day nursing activities during the assigned tour of duty
- Lead and supervise Certified Nursing Assistants and nursing staff
- Assist the Director of Nursing with daily nursing-service functions
- Maintain and update nursing policies, procedures, manuals, and reference materials
- Make written and oral reports and recommendations to the Director
- Coordinate nursing services with other resident services
- Participate in quality assurance programs, facility surveys, committee meetings, and care-plan activities
- Admit, transfer, and discharge residents
- Complete accident and incident reports and administrative documentation
- Develop work assignments and monitor staffing, absenteeism, performance, and compliance
- Make resident rounds and evaluate physical and emotional status
- Consult with residents, families, physicians, and other staff regarding care and treatment
- Monitor medication passes, treatments, physician orders, and medication records
- Start IVs, collect specimens, take vital signs, and provide treatments as necessary
- Monitor seriously ill residents and report changes in condition
- Develop, review, and implement resident assessments and care plans
- Participate in staff development, continuing education, safety, sanitation, and infection-control programs
- Maintain adequate supplies, equipment, PPE, and safe nursing-service work areas
- Assist with discharge planning and transportation arrangements
- Communicate with families regarding resident deaths and contact funeral homes when requested
Requirements
What you’ll need- Nursing Degree from an accredited college or university
- Current, unencumbered, active South Carolina RN license
- Current CPR certification
- Training in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices
- 2 years or more experience, preferably in a long-term care facility
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English
- Ability to read technical procedures and policy and procedure manuals
- Ability to work 12-hour shifts and weekends
- Knowledge of nursing and medical practices, procedures, laws, regulations, and nursing-facility guidelines
- Knowledge and experience with PCC preferred
- Must maintain required continuing education/licensing and remain in good standing with the State Board of Nursing
- Ability to move intermittently, cope with mental and emotional stress, and work with elderly, ill, disabled, emotionally upset, or hostile people
- Ability to push, pull, move, and/or lift at least 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and carry it at least 50 feet
- Must meet the facility’s general health requirements, including medical and physical examination
