About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Assist attorneys with trial preparation by organizing case files and conducting in-depth legal research
- Draft legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and client correspondence pertaining to criminal defense matters
- Review and summarize evidence, including police reports and witness statements, to support case strategies
- Maintain an organized case management system and ensure documentation is properly filed and accessible
- Communicate with clients, witnesses, and experts to streamline case progress
- Coordinate exhibits and organize materials for trial preparations
- Conduct legal research to aid in case development and strategic planning
- Assist with administrative tasks including billing and case management duties when required
Requirements
What you’ll need- Associate's degree or equivalent experience within a legal setting
- 2-3 years of experience as a paralegal, with a focus on criminal defense being highly desirable
- Comprehensive understanding of criminal law and pertinent legal principles
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and legal research tools
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
- Fluency in English is required
- Familiarity with US criminal law on both state and federal levels
- A minimum of one year of experience in a law office or legal environment
- Solid writing and drafting skills
- Experience with CLIO Manage software is a plus
- Strong customer service skills
- Able to work efficiently under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a dynamic environment
- Experience with case management software is an advantage
