About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Own engineering outcomes across field operations tooling, exam-room technology, waiting-room displays, and back-office systems
- Manage senior Engineering Leads and individual-contributor engineers, including hiring, performance, and career growth
- Step into the Engineering Lead’s technical-direction role where needed
- Lead code reviews, contribute directly to code, and guide technical best practices
- Champion AI-assisted and agentic engineering practices across teams and products
- Coordinate priorities and dependencies across three or more concurrent product areas
- Contribute to cross-organization architecture discussions, including ARB/RFCs
- Help engineers and Engineering Leads grow in their careers
- Partner with Product and Design leads on execution
- Manage blended full-time and contract teams, both onshore and offshore
- Escalate organizational, staffing, and resourcing needs to engineering leadership
- Travel 2–4 times per year
Requirements
What you’ll need- 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 2+ years leading engineers or engineering teams
- Recent hands-on technical involvement within the last 1–2 years
- Current hands-on experience with native Android development using Kotlin and modern Android development practices
- Experience with AOSP, customized Android ROMs, rooted or kiosk-mode Android devices, APK distribution, or Android OS upgrade programs
- Experience with Android device-platform development beyond traditional consumer mobile applications
- Experience with Java in addition to Kotlin
- Experience with JavaScript or TypeScript and React-based front-end development
- Experience building software for connected, managed, or remotely deployed devices
- Experience leading engineers across multiple concurrent products, workstreams, or technical domains
- Experience managing and developing engineers, including hiring, performance management, coaching, and career development
- Understanding of deployed-device constraints, including limited resources, intermittent connectivity, remote updates, and multiple hardware or OS generations
- Experience supporting remotely deployed device fleets, including staged releases, fleet-health monitoring, remote troubleshooting, and update or rollback strategies
- Experience with backend technologies supporting device fleets, such as Kotlin/JVM services, Node.js, serverless architectures, or similar microservice environments
- Hands-on use of AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude, or similar tools
- Working knowledge of cloud-based services and APIs supporting connected-device applications
- Experience managing blended teams of full-time employees and contractors
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, information systems, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience (desired qualification)
- Candidates will complete a coding assessment as part of the interview process
