About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide specialized legal advice and support to enable business strategy while identifying and managing legal risk
- Advise on compliance with relevant laws and regulations
- Partner with business counterparts across the enterprise to identify legal risks and provide strategic guidance
- Analyze legal risks and present mitigation options and recommendations
- Escalate complex legal issues and significant risks to senior legal leadership
- Research and analyze laws, regulations, and regulatory guidance affecting PayPal's global operations
- Manage assigned legal matters through resolution with internal stakeholders and external counsel
- Maintain knowledge of legal developments and communicate implications
- Provide commercial support for major merchant and partner deals
- Partner with global sales teams to negotiate strategic and complex transactions
- Draft and negotiate complex multinational agreements
- Coordinate cross-functionally to craft deal strategies and provide innovative legal advice, including for cross-border payment services
Requirements
What you’ll need- 5+ years relevant experience and a Juris Doctorate degree OR any equivalent combination of education and experience
- Strong transactional law experience
- Experience drafting and negotiating highly complex multinational agreements
- At least 2 years' experience managing large deal closings involving interrelated agreements, triggers, and stakeholder requirements
- Experience directly negotiating complex sales, marketing, or partner agreements with external parties
- Experience working with sales, privacy, product, regional counsel, risk, and regulatory stakeholders
- Experience with technology, licensing, payment/financial services, payments product solutions, or fintech
- Exceptional writing, communication, negotiation, interpersonal, organizational, and attention-to-detail skills
- Experience working with senior management and implementing policies and processes cross-functionally
- Experience navigating legal, compliance, and business needs
- Experience as outside or inside counsel to financial services, fintech, or technology companies
- Experience in payments
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently
