About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Make technical decisions affecting multiple teams and organizational boundaries
- Establish conventions and processes for other employees
- Handle multiple, multi-team initiatives and prioritize issues
- Advise management on project-level issues
- Guide and mentor junior engineers
- Deliver complete solutions across all phases of the SDLC: design, implementation, testing, delivery, and operations
- Design, build, and operate cloud network and routing infrastructure across AWS, including VPCs, transit gateways, load balancers, and service mesh
- Build, tune, and operate AWS CloudFront CDN and edge delivery
- Configure and maintain WAF rules and edge security controls
- Operate and extend Envoy- and Contour-based ingress and service mesh
- Configure and maintain nginx reverse proxy and load-balancing services
- Partner with SRE, security, and product engineering teams
- Troubleshoot latency, packet loss, routing failures, and TLS/certificate issues; implement fixes and preventive measures
- Develop and improve Terraform infrastructure-as-code
- Participate in an on-call rotation
- Document designs, runbooks, and operational best practices
- Partner with product management to ideate solutions to business problems and goals
Requirements
What you’ll need- 8+ years relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree OR any equivalent combination of education and experience
- 3+ years relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree OR any equivalent combination of education and experience
- Bachelor's in computer science or related field of study
- 5+ years' experience in software development or a related field
- 3+ years' hands-on experience with cloud networking
- Hands-on experience with CDN and edge delivery services
- Experience configuring and operating WAF or other edge security tooling
- Experience with Envoy, Contour, or similar service mesh / ingress controller technologies
- Experience with nginx or similar reverse proxy and load-balancing technologies
- Solid understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, TLS/SSL, routing protocols, and load balancing algorithms
- Hands-on programming and scripting with Python, Go, and Bash
- Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes
- Strong communication skills and ability to explain technical issues to non-technical audiences
