About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Implement tasks within the Software Development Lifecycle
- Follow internal conventions, standard procedures, and processes
- Make technical decisions using internal standards
- Design, build, test, and ship Android experiences for Venmo Commerce
- Develop reusable UI with Kotlin and Jetpack Compose
- Own features from technical design and implementation through experimentation, launch, observability, and iteration
- Integrate mobile experiences with backend APIs, payments infrastructure, identity, risk, search, recommendations, analytics, and platform capabilities
- Build performant, resilient, accessible, secure, and intuitive Android experiences
- Instrument product funnels and experiments and use data to understand customer behavior
- Partner with Product and Data Science to improve outcomes
- Collaborate with iOS engineers on cross-platform experiences
- Participate in architecture, technical design, code, and design reviews
- Debug and resolve production issues
- Contribute to the operational health and engineering quality of commerce experiences
- Collaborate with peers, manager, and project lead
Requirements
What you’ll need- 1+ years relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree OR any equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience building production Android apps in Kotlin
- Production experience with Jetpack Compose, Coroutines, and Flow
- Architecture fundamentals including MVVM or MVI, multi-module Gradle, and dependency injection with Hilt
- REST or GraphQL integration with Retrofit and OkHttp
- Sensible caching and offline handling
- Testing experience with JUnit, MockK, and Compose UI tests
- Clear written communication and ownership of features end to end
- Visa sponsorship is not available for this position now or any time in the future
- Nice-to-have: payments or fintech background, PCI DSS awareness, Android Keystore, biometric authentication, feature flags, experimentation, accessibility, marketplace or ecommerce product work
