About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop complete, practical, and highly manufacturable 3D models and equipment layouts from engineering requirements, site information, sketches, and initial concepts
  • Design complex, large-scale assemblies, heavy weldments, structural frames, sheet metal components, and pipework/equipment integrations
  • Ensure proper clearance, interference checking, and mating strategies
  • Produce detailed fabrication and manufacturing drawing packages, including General Arrangement drawings, Bills of Materials, cut lists, geometric tolerances, and revision controls
  • Account for high loads, severe vibration, fatigue, impact, corrosion, dust/water exposure, lifting, handling, and maintainability
  • Create support frames, equipment mountings, access platforms, skids, sumps, brackets, safety guards, and structural modifications for bulk materials handling and mineral processing infrastructure
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to refine concepts, meet manufacturing and installation constraints, and optimize efficiency and safety

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 5 to 10+ years of professional mechanical design experience specifically within heavy industrial sectors (e.g., mining, mineral processing, bulk materials handling, power generation, oil & gas, or heavy manufacturing)
  • Demonstrated mastery of advanced SolidWorks workflows, including parametric modeling, configuration design tables, robust weldment structures, sheet metal design, design libraries, and efficient large-assembly management
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field
  • Deep, practical understanding of how heavy equipment and steel structures are fabricated, welded, machined, bolted, and installed in real-world field settings
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills suited for direct collaboration with international engineering teams
  • Experience utilizing SolidWorks Simulation for structural analysis of fabricated steel structures, frames, brackets, and equipment supports (desired, not required)
  • Working knowledge of Australian Standards (AS) or prior experience working alongside Australian engineering firms (desired, not required)
  • Prior background designing equipment intended to operate in or around conveyors, pumps, pressure vessels, mobile machinery, or processing plants (desired, not required)
