About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead planning, prioritization, delivery commitments, and the team's operating rhythm
  • Allocate people, manage escalations, resolve blockers, and implement process improvements
  • Hire and maintain the required bar for AI-fluent engineering
  • Apply agentic capability guardrails, human-in-the-loop fallback, escalation, and disclosure across exposed product surfaces
  • Require evaluation sets with stated pass bars and release-gate integration before model-backed behavior reaches students
  • Monitor reliability, hallucination, model performance, and drift against stated thresholds
  • Enforce specification-first practices, contract-level tests, negative tests, automated merge gates, and model-backed evaluations
  • Drive contributions to governed shared libraries, MCP servers, evaluation suites, and golden datasets
  • Coach team capability, conduct performance and development conversations, and build succession
  • Lead Data Foundations engineering delivery, including roadmap execution, platform readiness, migration sequencing, cutover planning, dependency management, and coordination across source systems and downstream consumers
  • Set expectations for data contracts, quality gates, lineage, observability, access controls, operational readiness, and support ownership
  • Partner with Product, Data Engineering, Data Analytics, Solution Architecture, Security, Compliance, DevOps/SRE, and vendor teams
  • Modernize legacy .NET, ASP.NET WebForms/MVC, AngularJS, jQuery, and SQL Server platforms toward React, TypeScript, modern .NET REST services, containers, AWS, and event-driven APIs while protecting platform continuity

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 4+ years managing engineers who ship to production, including hiring, performance, and development
  • Working engineering background sufficient to review technical decisions and be credible with AI-fluent engineers
  • Experience delivering model-backed or agentic capabilities to real users, including pre-release evaluation and post-release monitoring
  • Experience holding quality gates under delivery pressure
  • Experience managing legacy and target platforms simultaneously
  • Comfortable managing a distributed team across time zones with strong written discipline
  • Experience in regulated or privacy-sensitive environments; K-12 and FERPA exposure is advantageous
  • Relevant degree or equivalent practical experience
  • Knowledge of Artificial Intelligence, information security, problem solving, technical acumen, API management, cloud computing, data security, DevOps, software design, AI agents, AutoAI, LLMs, generative AI, AI-generated content quality evaluation, performance management, code review, AI-enabled capability delivery, AI tooling adoption measurement, reusable engineering tooling, evaluation suites, data foundation, integration and migration oversight, reliability, observability, and testing
