About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Lead the high-impact Conversational AI engineering team building Alfie, Pebl’s conversational AI assistant.
Build, review, and ship alongside the team using AI tools.
Rethink planning, development, review, and deployment workflows around AI, including Claude Code and other LLM harnesses.
Partner with product management, data teams, and the AI Architect to turn product goals and technical direction into an executable roadmap.
Ensure output uses modern, scalable architecture with React, TypeScript, and AWS.
Recruit, mentor, and grow high-potential engineers using human-led and AI-augmented development.
Maintain observability, stability, and rigorous quality standards for experiments and product features.
Foster in-person collaboration in the Toronto office Monday through Wednesday.
Own team priorities, delivery, quality, and people growth while partnering with the AI Architect on technical direction.

Requirements

What you’ll need

3+ years of formal experience in engineering management leading a team of engineers.
Changed how a team works because of AI tooling; able to describe which old practices were dropped and why.
Ability to operate backend (micro)services in TypeScript or Python, Postgres, and AWS, deployed on Kubernetes.
Experience creating clean contracts and APIs that support agentic workflows.
Hands-on experience with LLM-based and agentic systems, including prompt design, tool/function calling, multi-step agent reasoning, and evaluation.
Proven track record delivering customer-facing SaaS products with a focus on metrics-driven growth, conversion, and user experience.
Ability to distill complex technical/AI-related trade-offs into actionable plans for leadership and cross-functional partners.
Must be able to commit to in-office collaboration Monday through Wednesday at the downtown Toronto office and live within commuting distance.
