About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Track, process, post, and reconcile daily cash receipts
  • Monitor and reconcile cash from Clinic and Shelter software
  • Input daily program revenue and adjusting journal entries in the general ledger using FASB/GAAP principles
  • Monitor exam and trap loan deposits and shift balances from deferred liabilities to earned income as services are fulfilled
  • Record program receivables and ensure collection
  • Record program cash received through multiple online platforms
  • Prepare daily cash deposits and deposit checks using the bank’s remote deposit system
  • Deposit daily donations and reconcile them with Development department gift batches
  • Maintain and reconcile multiple merchant accounts
  • Monitor and respond to inquiries and chargeback requests
  • Support operational departments with credit card transactions and devices
  • Extract and reconcile pet license fee data and facilitate reporting and disbursement to Palm Beach Animal Care and Control via PetData
  • Collect company credit card receipts and enter charges into accounts payable, allocating expenses across departments and programs
  • Record weekly payroll journal entries
  • Prepare and submit sales tax returns
  • Prepare month-end balance sheet reconciliations and resolve discrepancies
  • Prepare month-end journal entries
  • Ensure compliance with internal and external finance deadlines
  • Crosstrain with the Finance Coordinator – Accounts Payable
  • Interface with internal departments, vendors, and banking institutions
  • Train staff on Accounts Receivable processes and required forms
  • Provide supporting schedules for interim and annual independent financial audits
  • Prepare analyses and concise Excel spreadsheets as requested by the Director of Finance
  • Support development staff for fundraising events as needed

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Supports the Animal Rescue League’s mission, policies, and practices
  • Proven track record with accounting standards and protocols
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Considerable knowledge of budgetary principles and practices
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to gather, organize, correlate, and analyze facts
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Valid Florida driver license and driving record acceptable to insurance carrier
  • Experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge, Blackbaud Raisers Edge, AvidXchange, and QuickBooks, preferred
  • Critical thinker who can identify and evaluate problems, exercise sound judgment, and know when to ask for assistance
  • Non-profit accounting experience, preferred
  • Associate’s degree with accounting focus
  • Minimum three years related accounting experience; and/or combination of equivalent education and experience
  • Ability to perform the listed physical demands, including lifting and/or moving objects up to 10 pounds
