About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Assist the Assistant Vice President and/or Vice President with leadership in the continuing development, procurement, and implementation of Life sales and Medicare Supplement in multi-line states
  • Provide direction, manage departmental objectives, oversee staffing and expenses, and direct long-term strategic initiatives
  • Administer, lead, coach, and provide feedback to direct reports, including performance management, employee relations, development plans, and goal achievement
  • Serve as a role model and change champion while developing strong teams
  • Manage multiple business processes across one or more functional areas
  • Establish measurable individual and team objectives aligned with business and organizational goals
  • Ensure staff have the resources and skills needed for work initiatives and implement training plans
  • Oversee multiple large and complex plans and projects aimed at strategic goals
  • Engage key stakeholders and monitor production, recruitment, loss ratio, and debit balances monthly
  • Assist with departmental policies, standards, and budget preparation
  • Provide subject-matter expertise, direction, and thought leadership
  • Foster relationships with internal and external business stakeholders
  • Contribute to disaster recovery and business continuity plans and procedures
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s Degree in business-related field
  • Typically requires 8+ years of experience pertaining to departmental functions
  • Typically requires 5+ years of prior supervisory or managerial experience
  • Life and Health license required
  • Master’s Degree in business-related field preferred
  • At least one of the following designations preferred: Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU), Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI), Life Underwriter Training Council (LUTC), or Life Underwriter Training Council Fellow (LUTCF)
  • Demonstrated skill in personnel resources management, motivating, developing, and directing people
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage budgets and work within budget constraints
  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion
  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary
  • Ability to build client relationships
  • Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure
  • Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships
  • Sound judgment in making critical decisions
  • Knowledge of project control and cost estimating techniques
  • Knowledge of project planning and implementation
