About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support compliance with the University’s Equal Opportunity and Nondiscrimination policies and disability laws and regulations
  • Respond to and facilitate the interactive process for reasonable accommodation requests from qualified staff, student-employees, faculty, and campus visitors
  • Serve as a campus resource on accessibility and disability inclusion
  • Develop accessibility-related policies and training for the Penn community
  • Partner with Title IX and Religious and Ethnic Interests subject-matter experts on accommodations and related services
  • Collaborate with Student Disability Services, Deans’ Offices, Human Resources, Talent Acquisition, and other campus partners
  • Promote accessibility best practices through outreach and educational initiatives
  • Build trusting partnerships and provide individualized guidance, support, and resources
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for accommodation requests
  • Conduct intake and follow-up meetings, consult with supervisors and campus leadership, review documentation, and make written accommodation determinations
  • Work with campus partners to implement approved accommodations
  • Collaborate on student-employee and graduate-worker accommodation requests
  • Document accommodation requests, consultations, interactive processes, outcomes, implementation, and timelines
  • Maintain accommodation files and administer the accommodation database
  • Connect community members with accessibility resources and promote equitable access to University programs and services
  • Provide guidance, consultation, support, education, and training on accommodation processes and accessibility
  • Review and revise accessibility-related policies and procedures to reflect legal standards and best practices
  • Serve on committees and working groups supporting Equal Opportunity and Nondiscrimination initiatives
  • Monitor developments in relevant laws, regulations, guidelines, and professional standards
  • Perform other duties and support additional EO or CCR activities as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree and 2-3 years of experience in an appropriate area, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Candidates with a Juris Doctor (JD) degree will also be considered
  • Experience in disability services, human resources, equal employment opportunity, employee relations, accommodations management, or a related field
  • Knowledge of disability inclusion, accessibility, and relevant federal, state, and local laws, including the ADA, Rehabilitation Act, Pennsylvania Human Relations Act, Philadelphia Fair Practices Ordinance, FERPA, and FHA
  • Ability to facilitate the interactive process and determine potential reasonable accommodations
  • Strong case-management, organization, collaboration, and communication skills
  • Experience in a higher education environment and working with higher education student, faculty, staff, and leadership stakeholders
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and handle sensitive, confidential information
  • Ability to maintain records and manage databases
  • Experience developing and delivering training programs
  • Commitment to creating an equitable and accessible environment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Sound judgment, discretion, and cultural competence
  • Current knowledge of accessibility and disability inclusion regulatory requirements and best practices
  • Working knowledge of assistive technology, adaptive equipment, auxiliary aids and services, alternative formats, learning enhancement tools, and digital accessibility (WCAG 2.1)
  • Background checks may be required after a conditional job offer
