About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design, build, and troubleshoot integrations and automated data pipelines between Snowflake, Salesforce, and external sources
  • Develop REST API connections, secure authentication, and daily ETL processes with error logging
  • Develop and optimize complex SQL queries, views, and middleware
  • Design dimensional data models and transformation layers for fundraising tools and actionable insights
  • Establish Git code-management practices, branching strategies, pull requests, and documentation-as-code
  • Version, audit, and maintain recoverability of SQL, R, and Python analytical scripts
  • Implement CI/CD principles for reliable, tested, automated deployment of data models
  • Track project milestones, manage backlogs, and communicate project health
  • Gather requirements and translate business needs into technical specifications and timelines
  • Advise Development and Alumni Relations users on data-solution planning, selection, and implementation
  • Deploy and maintain visualization tools and statistical environments across Qlik Cloud, Snowflake, and Posit Connect
  • Leverage Snowflake Cortex AI for data engineering and AI-driven analytics
  • Monitor application health and provide technical support across Penn schools and centers
  • Support fundraising and alumni-relations analytics for 18 schools and central Development and Alumni Relations staff
  • Report directly to the Senior Director of Advancement Analytics

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree and 3–5 years of experience in data engineering, systems analysis, or a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum 3 years of recent, hands-on, production experience with Snowflake
  • Snowflake experience including warehouse sizing/cost management, RBAC, Streams & Tasks/Dynamic Tables, MERGE-based incremental loading, and stage-based ingestion of JSON/Parquet/CSV
  • Advanced SQL fluency, including complex CTEs, window functions, MERGE, and CTAS
  • Experience designing dimensional/star-schema data models through reusable, production-grade views
  • Proficiency in Python for REST APIs, authentication and secrets, structured/semi-structured data transformation, and programmatic Snowflake connectivity
  • Demonstrated production system-to-system integration experience, including middleware/services for non-native integrations
  • Ability to diagnose failures across the stack, including IP allowlisting, network policies, and changing provider IP ranges
  • Proven experience with Git version control workflows
  • SnowPro Core Certification or higher strongly preferred
  • Experience with Salesforce NPSP and Snowflake schema architecture preferred
  • Experience with Asana or JIRA preferred
  • Experience writing stored procedures and UDFs preferred
  • Experience consuming Snowflake Marketplace data products and configuring Secure Data Shares preferred
  • Experience using LLMs for AI-driven text processing and analytics preferred
  • Familiarity with Snowflake Cortex AI functions and/or agent-building preferred
  • Proficiency in R or Python for data mining, statistical inference, and predictive modeling preferred
  • Understanding of higher education Advancement lifecycle and gift accounting concepts preferred
