About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead the strategic vision for judicial clerkship programming and services
- Develop and implement judicial clerkship programs, services, and resources
- Provide career counseling and job-search support to students and alumni pursuing judicial clerkships
- Coach students on application strategy, application materials, networking, and interview preparation
- Review cover letters, resumes, personal statements, and other application materials
- Build and maintain expertise in judicial clerkship opportunities, hiring trends, timelines, and selection practices
- Identify and reach students interested in judicial clerkships and ensure access to relevant support
- Lead judicial clerkship and internship programs in collaboration with faculty committees
- Manage recommendation letters, paper clerkship applications, application materials, and related administrative processes
- Format recommendation letters using mail merge and Microsoft Office
- Manage Canvas, LiveWhale, Symplicity, 12Twenty, OSCAR, and Mailchimp resources
- Lead academic careers programming and counseling for students, alumni, and academic fellows
- Compile faculty-position application packets and disseminate them to law schools
- Coordinate student connections to faculty research assistantships
- Prepare and present reports, including semiannual faculty committee reports to committees and the Dean
- Build relationships with judges, chambers staff, alumni, and industry colleagues
- Participate in the Penn Carey Law Inn of Court and relevant conferences and meetings
- Facilitate faculty judicial clerkship and academic committee activities
- Track clerkship outcomes using Microsoft Excel
- Provide broader career counseling, programming, application feedback, and mock interviews across legal sectors
Requirements
What you’ll need- Advanced degree
- J.D. strongly preferred
- Minimum of three to five years of legal work experience with increasing responsibility in a legal organization, government agency, law firm, academic institution, business environment, or other relevant professional setting
- Experience as a judicial clerk or working as a judicial clerkship or academic careers counselor preferred
- Ability to apply innovative and strategic thinking to design, plan, and implement educational programming in career planning
- Established track record as a workplace collaborator
- Cover letter required with application
- Background checks may be required after a conditional job offer
